Now I'm pretty sure this will not be the same for everyone as, well, everyone has different workouts they enjoy. But my absolute must have is (drumroll please)
And no I'm not talking having a huge collection of every single weight possible either.
Dumbbells are such a versatile piece of equipment and can be used to add resistance to aerobic workouts, or on their own for strength training.
I own a pair of 3KG and a pair of 5KG dumbbells and still get such a fantastic workout by just making sure I mix things up between using them and bodyweight exercises for variety. I also have 2 1KG wrist/ankle weights which can be just as effective, especially for just starting out.
Now that's not to say I won't ever go heavier, and it's not to say you shouldn't try to either. But it all does depend on your goals, your workout preferences and of course, your budget. If you don't have space for a dedicated home gym, you can increase reps or add more resistance in other ways. An example of this is elevated lunges. You can also have your back foot elevated, again changing the workout.
For me, dumbbells just tick all the boxes I need for me;
✔ Easy to store / do not take up much room
✔ Easy to use
✔ Gets results
What would your must-have piece of kit be?
And if you don't have any dumbbells yet, do you think you'll try them out soon?
Let me know in the comments 😊
For now though, make sure whatever exercise you're doing is enjoyable for you!
